Health inequalities

The North of England has a worrying pattern of lower life expectancy, higher infant mortality and worse health and wellbeing. This added to a growing body of evidence highlighting the urgent need to address regional health inequalities and improve productivity in the North. Education and prevention have long been considered the solution, however, young people are often left out of the decision making proccess.

At YPA, we believe young people are 100% of the now. Unfortuantely, there are widespread inequalities in educational attainment, career opportunties and health in the the most deprived areas on the UK.

We address these challenges through a completely unique and transformational healthcare leadership programme for 16-25 year olds, by giving young people more control over their health, teaching them life skills in leadership and entrpereneurship at the same time!

The business of health

A world leading programme delivered by the award-winning Team at LinkMedics. Over the course of 15-weeks we introduce our young people to new ways of critical thinking, entrepreneurship and problem-solving, whilst we encourage them take responsibility for their own health, and that of the wider community.

We encourage pupils to think laterally, indentify and create solutions to real world challenges they face in society around health. Participants are then given specific briefs, skills, knowledge and mentorship to design innovative solutions to improve the health of their current school or local community. They are given a safe space to collaborate and implement their innovation over the duration of the programme, with guidance on evaluating the impact on community health. They are assigned a mentor who will set them weekly outputs and tasks, and be their guide through the programme.
